The Treatment
Leg thread veins are often hereditary, but they can also be caused by hormonal changes (including puberty, pregnancy, menopause, using birth control pills and HRT), obesity, ageing, standing for long periods of time and leg injuries to the skin. Women are more likely to develop them. Thread veins may not have any symptoms other than their unsightly appearance that may lead to self-consciousness and embarrassment. Thread veins are similar to varicose veins but they’re smaller, often red or blue and are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. They usually appear on your thighs and ankles.

What is Microsclerotherapy and when will I see results?
Sclerotherapy is used to treat the smaller veins on your legs including thread and spider veins.
During treatment a sclerosing agent is injected using very fine needles into your thread vein. The vein will then be reabsorbed into local tissue and fade within a few weeks, with full results after a month. The vein may look worse before it gets better. Sometimes more than 1 sclerotherapy treatment is needed for your vein to fade.
How long will the results last?
The veins should disappear but there is a chance the vein may reappear. This is a treatment not a cure so new veins could develop.
Are there any side effects?
As the skin is being penetrated this procedure carries a risk of infection. Other risks include: localised redness and itching, adverse allergic reactions to the sclerosing solution and skin damage and discolouration. You will be given special hosiery to wear for a week after the treatment.
Does the procedure hurt?
You may feel some mild discomfort during the treatment.
